Victorian Multi-Site Heat Pump Rollout
Regional VIC · Heat-pump hot water replacement across multiple sites under VEU

The challenge
Ageing electric storage hot water units across several sites were consuming a disproportionate share of each site's electricity bill, and the operator wanted a consistent replacement standard it could roll out across its portfolio rather than assessing each site from scratch.
The approach
Esena audited hot water usage patterns and existing unit specifications at each site to confirm heat-pump replacement was suitable given available space, electrical supply and hot water demand.
A standard specification was developed for the rollout, with VEU (Victorian Energy Upgrades) certificate eligibility confirmed and factored into each site's proposal to reduce upfront cost.
Installation was staged across sites to minimise disruption to daily operations, with each completed site independently verified against program requirements before certificates were created.
Indicative outcome
Project profile, indicative figures based on comparable multi-site commercial rollouts. Individual results vary by site electricity tariff, hot water demand and VEU certificate value at time of installation.
Sites replacing resistive electric hot water with a heat pump of comparable capacity typically see a substantial reduction in the electricity consumed for hot water heating specifically, with the VEU incentive offsetting part of the equipment and installation cost. Overall site bill impact depends on how much of the total bill hot water previously represented.
