Victoria, hot-water electrification

Hot water that costs a fraction to run.

Heat-pump hot water replaces gas and electric-resistance systems with efficient electrification, and eligible Victorian households may access VEU incentives.

01What to know

Engineered hot water, explained plainly.

How heat pumps work

A heat pump extracts warmth from the air to heat water, using roughly a quarter of the electricity of a resistive element.

Why replace gas or resistive electric

Hot water is one of the largest single loads in most residential properties. Electrifying it cuts consumption and removes a gas connection.

Household suitability

Household size, water usage patterns and existing system type determine the right tank capacity and unit.

Installation considerations

Location, airflow, condensate drainage, noise placement and electrical circuit requirements are assessed before install.

VEU pathway

Eligible Victorian upgrades may access certificate-based incentives under the VEU program. Eligibility is confirmed during assessment.

Electrical requirements

Most units need a dedicated circuit; switchboard capacity is checked as part of every Esena assessment.

Household size guide

  • 1–2 people, smaller tank, compact unit
  • 3–4 people, mid-size tank, standard recovery
  • 5+ people, larger tank, faster recovery

Indicative only, final sizing follows an assessment of your usage and site. Esena confirms VEU eligibility and incentive values before you commit; we never advertise an upgrade as "free" unless that exact installed offer applies to your scenario.
