Step-by-step guide
About 5 minutesGoodWe automatic backup during a blackout
Keep the backup selector in the correct position so the GoodWe system can transfer automatically when the grid fails.
Need the GoodWe monitoring app? Open the app articleCheck the switchboard label and your Esena handover. This guide applies only when your installation has an automatic backup selector labelled Battery / Auto or similar.
- 01During normal operation, leave the clearly labelled selector in Battery / Auto when your handover identifies that position as the automatic-backup setting. Do not move it to Grid, Bypass or Off.
- 02Do not test the backup by switching off the main supply yourself. A licensed person should test automatic transfer and confirm the selector position.
- 03If a blackout occurs, switch off high-load appliances such as ovens, air conditioners, pumps, kettles and electric hot water, then wait for the backup circuits to transfer.
- 04Only the circuits connected to the backup output will operate. Use essential appliances only because the battery and backup output have limited capacity.
- 05Open SEMS+ when safe and check battery SOC, backup status and any overload warning. Do not change inverter settings or repeatedly reset a breaker.
- 06If backup does not start, the selector is not clearly labelled or you are unsure of its position, do not move it. Call Esena on 1300 239 296 and send a photo of the labelled switchboard.
ImportantBattery / Auto is correct only where the automatic selector and wiring were installed and labelled for that purpose. Manual changeover installations may use a different position and sequence—follow the handover, not a generic internet guide.
