About 5 minutesTesla Powerwall blackout and backup
Powerwall backup is automatic when the installed Gateway/Backup Switch and backup circuits are configured for it.

Confirm the outage is real, check the Tesla app for battery percentage and Backup Reserve, and identify whether your site is whole-home or partial-home backup.
- 01When grid power fails, wait for the Powerwall/Gateway to transfer the labelled backup circuits. Do not switch off the main supply to test it yourself.
- 02Turn off high-load appliances such as ovens, air conditioners, pumps, kettles and electric hot water to reduce the chance of an overload.
- 03Use only the circuits connected to the backup output. A partial-home system will not power circuits that remain connected to the grid.
- 04Check the Tesla app for battery percentage, Backup Reserve and any overload or outage notice. Do not change Advanced Settings during the outage.
- 05When grid power returns and is stable, leave the system to reconnect automatically. If backup does not start or circuits remain off, call Esena on 1300 239 296.
ImportantTesla whole-home and partial-home backup are different installation designs. Never move a switch or open the Gateway unless the Esena handover specifically labels it as customer-operated.
